Kusatsu Hotel Annex Watanoyu is a small onsen ryokan with only 10 rooms located at the entrance to Nishi-no-Kawahara Park.
Watanoyu is an old building that has been renovated to create a very modern Japanese-style ryokan that is popular with women and couples on hot spring trips.
(PR)
Many small inns in Kusatsu Onsen do not offer dinner and only breakfast, but Watanoyu offers Japanese dinner and breakfast.
Meals are served in the restaurant on the second floor.
All rooms have two beds, which is convenient for those who do not like to sleep on futons on tatami mats.
The separate men's and women's large public baths have only indoor baths and no open-air baths, but you can enjoy two different sources of hot spring water in the baths: Watanoyu and Bandai Mine.
It is only 400 meters from Watanoyu to Yubatake, making it a convenient place to stroll around the hot spring resort area.
Watanoyu is recommended for those who wish to stay at a simple, stylish, and modern Japanese-style hot spring hotel.
Kusatsu Hotel Annex Watanoyu does not provide a shuttle service from the Kusatsu Bus Center, so you will have to walk to the inn.
The distance from the Kusatsu Bus Terminal to Watanoyu is 550 meters, so a 10-minute walk will get you there.
For those who rent a car, parking is not available at Watanoyu, but at Kusatsu Hotel 1913, 100 meters away from Watanoyu.
There are two types of rooms at Kusatsu Hotel Annex Watanoyu: the main building and the west building.
There are no Japanese-style rooms with tatami mats, but Western-style rooms with two beds and Japanese/Western-style rooms with tatami space.
There are no baths in the rooms, so bathing is available in the large public bathhouse.
The room types are as follows.
Japanese/Western style room in the main building
Size 24m2
Twin bed + Tatami space + Washroom + Toilet
There are rooms for 2 and 3 people.
In the case of 3 persons, a futon will be laid out on the tatami space.

West Wing Western-style room
Size 21m2
Twin beds (semi-double) + chair/table space + washroom + toilet
Capacity 1 to 2 persons
(PR)
Amenities include hand towel, bath towel, toothbrush, toothpaste, haori, yukata, tabi socks, razor, shower cap, cotton swab, brush, kettle, and tea set.
There are separate large public baths for men and women, with only indoor baths and saunas.
There are two bathtubs in the indoor baths, one is a hot spring from the Kinu no Yu hot spring and the other is a hot spring from the Bandai Mine.
The bathtubs are next to each other, so you can compare the soft and gentle hot spring water with the slightly more stimulating hot spring water due to its strong acidity.
The women's bathroom has a glass window for a sense of freedom, while the men's bathroom has a smaller window for a more relaxed atmosphere.

There is a footbath on the third floor of the main building.
(PR)
Towels for footbaths are conveniently provided nearby.
When staying at Watanoyu, meals are served at the restaurant for both dinner and breakfast.
(PR)
Dinner is a “gozen” meal, with each dish served in a beautiful bowl.
The menu includes an aperitif, appetizer, vinegared dish, sashimi, steamed egg custard, meat dish, simmered dish, steamed dish, one-pot dish, rice, miso soup, pickles, and dessert.
(PR)
The variety of dishes is reputed to be delicious.
Here is an example of an actual dinner dish.
Breakfast is also Japanese food.
Dishes include tofu, salad, simmered dishes, grilled fish, dashimaki tamago (rolled egg), kinpira gobo (burdock root), spinach with sesame paste, soboroni (minced fish), chirimenjako (dried young sardines), rice, miso soup, and pickles.
(PR)
The dashimaki tamago (rolled egg) comes to you freshly prepared and is well known for its delicious taste.
The menu changes depending on the season and other factors.
word-of-mouth evaluation
Contributor A.
I was very satisfied with the inn.
I think it was a modern building amidst the rows of period-style inns.
The rooms were just as impressive, with tatami mats but with high ceilings and open spaces.
The meals were really excellent.
I was very interested in each dish and enjoyed eating them, wondering what was coming and what they were seasoned with.
It was delicious and gorgeous, one of the elements that made me glad I chose to stay here.
As for the hot spring, there is only one indoor bath due to the small size of the inn (10 couples), but we did not share it with other guests, so we were able to take our time in it.
We were able to relax and really enjoy our stay, starting with the homemade welcome sweets in our room, and the many other things they were willing to do for us.
Contributor B
I stayed there before with a friend and it was so good that I revisited with my husband.
It was still good.
Because it is small, the eating place was calm, and we could take a bath slowly.
Recently, Kusatsu has been crowded due to the resurgence of inbound tourism, and only a limited number of outside bathhouses are open, so we felt at home at Watanoyu.
We also walked to Yubatake in walking distance, so after dinner, we strolled around in our spare time.
The meals were hearty and satisfying.
