About Ryokan Nagasawa Heihachi

Ryokan Nagasawa Heihachi is a three-story wooden retro Japanese modern ryokan built at the end of the Taisho era (1912-1926).

Guests can enjoy the best of Japanese modern onsen ryokan in the lobby and in their rooms.

It is an old wooden building with a long history, but it is well maintained and cleaned well, making your stay comfortable.

It is a three-story building, but there is no elevator, so you will have to go up and down the stairs.

The classical appearance of the inn during the day is lovely, but the night view with the gas lamps is very nice.

Rooms to stay at Nagasawa Heihachi include not only tatami-mat rooms but also Japanese-style rooms with beds, so those who do not like to sleep on futons laid out on tatami mats are recommended to stay in a room with a bed.

The hot spring baths include not only separate large public baths for men and women, but also private half-open-air baths and private family baths, so you can enjoy the hot spring baths without feeling self-conscious.

In addition, we recommend staying at a relatively reasonable accommodation rate among hot spring resorts in Ginzan Onsen.

About access

Nagasawa Heihachi offers a pick-up service from Oishida Station by reservation only.

For those who rent a car, there is a parking lot for 10 cars next to the bus terminal at the entrance to the hot spring resort area, where you can park for free.

When you arrive at the parking lot, contact the inn and they will come to pick up your luggage.

Leave your luggage with the attendant and walk through the hot spring resort area to the inn.

About the Baths

Nagasawa Heihachi has two baths: a large hot spring bath for men and women and two private baths.

The bathtubs in the men's and women's large baths on the first floor are large enough for about five people.

On the third floor, there is a half-open-air bath and a private family bath.

The private baths are popular because they are not by reservation only and can be used freely as long as they are available.

The half-open-air baths are more spacious than the family baths and more comfortable to use.

The hot spring baths are of course 100% free-flowing hot-spring water.

About the food for meals

Meals are served in the dining room on the second floor.

Dinner is a Japanese-style meal using local ingredients, such as grilled Obanazawa beef and salt-baked rockfish.

The menu includes appetizers, sashimi, Yamagata's famous Imoni (stewed sweet potato), soba noodles, salt-baked rockfish, Obanazawa beef, tofu, rice, and soup.

Here is an example of an actual dish.

word-of-mouth evaluation

My mother's legs and back are getting worse, and she was not sure if she could climb the stairs, but she held on to the handrail and did her best to get up and down the stairs.
We had a corner room on the second floor with a view of the river, so my mother and I enjoyed talking with her while looking out.
The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were very tasty and plentiful.
We checked in early so that we could be the first to take a private bath, and my mother and I were able to take a relaxing soak in the hot spring together as children.
The facility had been remodeled and cleaned very well.

I had expected it to be much deeper in the mountains, but after driving down a surprisingly ordinary country road, I found a parking lot.
From there, we were picked up by the ryokan staff, and after just a short drive, the famous appearance seen in the pictures appeared.
It was like stepping back in time.
The innkeeper was very kind and helpful.
The private bath was very nice, but the water was so hot that I had to stir it with a big stirring stick about 200 times before I could get in.
The inn was very clean and well maintained, and the rooms were beautiful.
We had a room on the street side, and I recommend it because after 5:00 p.m. many tourists from overseas are gone and you can enjoy the atmosphere of the gaslights from your room.
The dinner was too much to eat and very tasty.
