Kozankaku in Ginzan Onsen is a four-story wooden inn with a wonderful classical atmosphere.
On the exterior, there are reliefs made of plaster finished with a trowel by a plasterer that give a sense of history, and the 10 reliefs represent the four seasons of Japan.
The front desk of the ryokan also has the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese onsen ryokan.
There is no elevator in the ryokan, so guests must use the stairs, which are also very atmospheric.
It is not recommended for those who cannot climb stairs.
A collection of old objects is arranged in a room at the back of the lobby, so you can enjoy looking at these items.
At night, the stucco reliefs are lit up to enjoy a very nice appearance.
Furuyama-kaku offers a shuttle service to and from Oishida Station by reservation only, so it is recommended to use this service.
If you are driving a rental car, you can park in the dedicated parking lot on the left before Ginzan Onsen (Ginzan Hot Spring).
There is an attendant at the parking lot and a scooter will carry your luggage from the parking lot to the lodge so you can walk to the lodge empty-handed.
All rooms at Kozankaku are Japanese-style rooms, so you will sleep on a futon.
All rooms have a washroom and toilet, but no bath.
The rooms are wooden, so you may hear noises from the floor above, the room next door, or the hallway.
The types of Japanese-style rooms at Kozankaku are as follows

Amenities include a hair dryer, slippers, yukata (Japanese bathrobe), razor, toothpaste set, towels, and bath towels.
Room facilities include a refrigerator, kettle, tea set, and safe.
There are no baths in the rooms at Kozankaku, so you can take a bath in the large public baths for men and women or use the private baths.
Separate men's and women's baths are located here.
Shampoo, conditioner, and body soap are available in the washrooms.
There are two private baths, which can be used with a key if available and not by reservation only.
The private bath on the first floor is located in a secluded area.
The changing rooms are spacious and very easy to use.
The private bath on the third floor is a half-open-air bath with a roof.
Both baths allow you to relax and enjoy the source of the spring water.
Those who do not like large baths can also use the private baths for couples or families only.
Dinner will be served in the room where you will be staying.
There is no table in the room, so you will sit on the tatami mats and eat at a table.
If you do not like to sit on tatami mats, you may have a hard time because your feet may hurt.
This is how dinner is served at a traditional Japanese onsen ryokan.
Dinner dishes include appetizers, buckwheat buns, sashimi, hot spring steamed Obanazawa beef, fish dishes, local dishes, and Yamagata rice, all of which are made from seasonal, local Yamagata ingredients.
Here is an example of the actual dish.
Breakfast is served at the Shinsetsu table in the dining room on the second floor.
The dishes include dried fish, boiled tofu, fuki miso, ham and salad, simmered dishes, hot spring eggs, rice, miso soup, pickles, and yogurt.
Breakfast is a normal Japanese meal.

It is a nice and prestigious inn that has beautifully and carefully used an old building.
The food was delicious, the service was courteous, and I was able to enjoy the most luxurious feeling. I would like to go back again.
